Why no per-TB license? +
Because taxing your growth is indefensible. We sell support and commitment, not the right to stack disks. Your data is yours; we don't get to count it.
What about S3 costs? +
They're billed directly by your S3 provider (AWS, Wasabi, self-hosted MinIO, etc.). Caelum adds no markup on storage. You keep full control of the provider and the contract.
What's the difference between Free, Trial and Production? +
Free is free forever but capped at 1 TB usable, no HA. Trial is free for 30 days with no capacity cap — ideal for evaluating the product on a realistic volume. Production lifts both limits, adds the HA cluster and committed support. The Free → Production switch is a one-click in the UI, no reinstall.
Is the Free tier really free forever? +
Yes — no freemium trap. As long as your usable data fits in 1 TB, you keep Caelum free for life. The license renews automatically server-side. Above 1 TB, you switch to Production (or stay under the cap). No paid features hidden in the UI.
How does it compare to NetApp on budget? +
On equivalent setups, typically 1/4 to 1/10 of the cost. The gap comes from having no per-TB license and from running on commodity x86 hardware instead of proprietary NetApp gear.
